Ric Flair Reveals Alternative Pitch For Sting’s Final Match; Hasn’t Heard From AEW In Months

Ric Flair has looked back on his involvement in Sting’s final match at AEW Revolution while also providing an update on his AEW status.

Appearing alongside The Icon since November 2023, The Nature Boy was ringside for many of Sting’s matches and played a part in the final farewell for the Hall of Famer at Revolution 2024. While Flair remained a close ally of Sting’s virtually throughout his run, it wasn’t exactly what he intended.

Appearing on Busted Open Radio, Flair pitched the alternative finish that would have seen him betray Sting one final time and be locked in the Scorpion as revenge, likely covered in blood despite Tony Kahn’s instructions:

“I gave them a finish to that match. They looked at me like I had seven different things….I don’t think Tony (Khan) knew that I was on blood thinners. I’ve been doing all that shit for all these years. I’ve had that blood clot since 2012. Tony, if he asked me once, he asked me ten times, ‘Do not cut yourself.’ What I wanted to do. I wanted those guys to have the same match, but at the end, instead of leaving my laying there like that, just keep me on the outside the whole time. At the end, as Sting is standing there and those guys are gone, I jump on Sting, boom, boom, boom, he does one big move to me, puts the scorpion (death lock) on me, and we go out the way we started 31 years ago. It would have blown the roof off the joint and it would have made me a heel so I had somewhere to go. It’s hard to get the people to get mad at me now.”

Has Ric Flair Left AEW?

On July 12th, news broke that the partnership between Wooooo! Energy and AEW had come to a premature end and likely meant the end of Ric Flair’s time in the promotion as the energy drink was effectively paying Flair’s salary. Later in the interview, Flair added that he hasn’t heard from management since Revolution in late March:

“I haven’t heard back from them since. ‘Ric that’s a great idea. We’ll call you later on.'”

Mark Henry, who previously worked for AEW, noted that it was unlikely that Flair would hear back from the company.

No further updates have been provided in regards to whether or not Flair will be making subsequent appearances on AEW programming.
