Pat McAfee will be taking a break from WWE announcing.
Prior to the August 19th episode of WWE Raw, McAfee announced on social media that the upcoming episode would be his last for a little bit and looked to make it a good one:
“Last Monday Night Raw for a little bit…I’m very bummed out. Tonight will be my last trip to that wonderful WWE family for a while. Alright, let’s have a day. I’m bummed out. Football season is starting, which is awesome, but the WWE family is where I’m supposed to be. I know that, and I hope they do too.”
Pat McAfee returned for his second full time announcing run in January 2024 following a cameo appearance at the Royal Rumble. In July, McAfee announced that he would once again be returning to ESPN College Gameday for the upcoming season. As the announcer’s previous stint on the show resulted in him taking a break from commentary, many expected the same to occur when it was announced that he would be returning to ESPN later in the year. While McAfee will be gone from Raw for a few months, he is due back very soon.
When Will Pat McAfee Return?
During the August 19th Raw, a video package aired featuring some of McAfee’s WWE highlights. It was then announced that McAfee would return to Raw in January 2025 when Raw moves to Netflix.

McAfee’s exit is the latest commentary change that has been announced in recent weeks. On September 2nd, ESPN announcer Joe Tessitore will join Raw announce team while Michael Cole will move over to SmackDown. Cole will also return to Raw in January for the debut edition on Netflix.
