Prior to signing with WWE, the Motor City Machine Guns could have become a part of the AEW roster, and a major match was planned for them at All In 2024.
Finishing up with TNA Wrestling in April that year, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin became free agents and had a very brief run on the independents. Following multiple vignettes teasing their arrival, the Machine Guns debuted on the October 18 episode of SmackDown.
Immediately making an impact in the tag division, Shelley and Sabin won the tag titles in just their third match in the company and were part of the critically acclaimed TLC match on the SmackDown after WrestleMania 41. However, back in 2024, signing with AEW was not completely out of the question.
Motor City Machine Guns Were In Talks With AEW
As reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, Sabin and Shelley did have talks with Tony Khan’s promotion, and the original plan was for the former WWE Tag Team Champions to feud with The Young Bucks. The rivalry would have seen a match between The Bucks and The Guns take place at All In 2024, which emanated from Wembley Stadium in London, England. The report also adds that things went “radio silent” in the summer of 2024, which AEW presumed meant that Shelley and Sabin were set to sign with WWE.
The Tag Team Championship match at All In 2024 saw The Young Bucks successfully defend their titles against FTR and The Acclaimed.
