NXT Breakout Tournament To Return

WWE have announced the return of the NXT Breakout Tournament, which will begin on July 13th. The winner of this tournament will receive a championship opportunity in the future.

This will be the second incarnation of the tournament. The first NXT Breakout event took place in 2019, and was won by Jordan Myles. The NXT Champion at the time, Adam Cole, was challenged by Myles for his championship. Adam Cole retained his title in this match. The other superstars that took part were Boa, Dexter Lumis, Angel Garza, Cameron Grimes, Joaquin Wilde former North American Champion Bronson Reed and current North American Champion Isaiah “Swerve” Scott.

While no participants have been formally announced, WWE appears to be holding qualifying matches in the near future. Jacob Cohen was at the Capitol Wrestling Center for the recent NXT tapings. Pictures show that qualifying matches are taking place in an upcoming episode of 205 Live:

Cohen also posted pictures to confirm that the two qualifying matches are as follows:

  • Guru Raaj vs Andre Chase
  • Desmond Troy vs Joe Gacy

WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels has also commented on the return of the event. The Heartbreak Kid has stated how big of an opportunity this will be for the winner:
