Nic Nemeth, previously known as Dolph Ziggler in WWE, has provided more details about his recent shock return to the company.
The former World Champion was revealed to be the final mystery entrant in the John Cena Last Time is Now Tournament, as he faced Solo Sikoa in a losing effort on the November 17 broadcast. Much like the returning Zack Ryder on the November 10 SmackDown, Nemeth was not announced ahead of time to generate the maximum amount of shock factor for the fans in attendance at Madison Square Garden in New York City. In another similarity to Ryder, Ziggler got a great reaction from the fans and put on a great showing in his return match.
While the intrigue kept the fans guessing with few correctly predicting that Nemeth would be the mystery man, the TNA star has admitted that the company did at one point intend to spoil the surprise in advance.
While appearing on the Off The Ropes podcast, Nemeth stated that he was told that his return was set to be announced in advance, but was happy to see that it was kept secret:
“A few weeks ago when I was told, it’s like, ‘Hey, we’re gonna have you in this thing and we’re gonna announce it ahead of time. They’re going to show brackets’ or something, and I go, ‘Oh my God, that’s such a bad idea.’ I go, ‘Is there any way we’re not doing this?’ They go, ‘There might be something they’re gonna put out today. It’ll be on social media. Maybe retweet or something.’ I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I hope this doesn’t happen’ and nothing happened.”
Nic Nemeth Not Signed To WWE Following Return
Following Ziggler’s Raw match, there was speculation that the former World Champion could be on his way back to the company following his release back in 2023. However, in a follow-up report by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, it is stated that Ziggler’s appearance was a one-off and that he is signed to TNA for the foreseeable future.
