July 23 is a big day for those who were released by WWE earlier in the year.
Shortly after WrestleMania, news broke that stars from the main roster and NXT had been informed that their time with the promotion had come to an end. The biggest names of the list were Kairi Sane, Aleister Black and Zelina Vega. The Wyatt Sicks and Motor City Machine Guns were also released, along with Santos Escobar and Zoey Stark.
As is the case with WWE releases, the main roster stars are given a 90-day no-compete clause. While the wrestlers are unable to appear for other promotions, they are still paid by the company during this time.
As of July 23, all of the names released back in April are now free agents, meaning that they can appear for any promotion moving forward. Prior to becoming free agents, some have booked appearances at conventions or future matches.
The next major event in the US will be AEW Redemption, which many are expecting to see a former WWE star make their debut. However, 2 of the released names already have matches set in the UK. Nikki Cross, who now owns PROGRESS Wrestling with her husband Big Damo, will be returning to the ring at the Scorchio event on July 26 in London. Now competing under the name Nikki Storm, the former Women’s Champion will be in action against Session Moth Martina.
For Zoey Stark, who will now be competing under the name Zoey Serrano, the former WWE star will be a part of RevPro’s Women’s Grand Prix, which will take place on July 25 in Wolverhampton.
