Chris Jericho got the wrestling world talking once again following his AEW return, and more details have been provided on how things unfolded.
Even though rumours of a WWE return went on for months, Jericho shocked the fans once more when he walked out in front of the fans on the April 1 episode of Dynamite. With Jericho gone from All Elite Wrestling for the best part of the year, fans were under the impression that they had seen the last of Y2J in the company.
As reported by Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE were looking to bring in Jericho, but as part of a farewell tour. The retirement would add onto a major year for veterans wrapping things up, as AJ Styles has already retired and Brock Lesnar is rumoured to bring things to an end at SummerSlam:
“We had been told that WWE only wanted to bring (Jericho) in for a retirement tour and farewell. At one time, we were told that the 2026 year would be built around retirements for AJ Styles, Brock Lesnar, and presumably Jericho.
But even though there were teases by Pearce and another by CM Punk, we had been told repeatedly that you should not believe any of the stories going around involving WWE and Jericho.”
Jericho has taken the calls from fans to retire and made his part of his character, as was seen in his time as The Learning Tree. In previous interviews, the former World Champion has also stated that he has no plans to retire anytime soon or make a big spectacle out of his final matches.
Chris Jericho WWE Return Talks “Dead” Following AEW Appearance
Continuing, Meltzer added that Jericho is set to be All Elite until further notice, adding that plans for a WWE return are now over:
“There are more questions than answers right now as nobody is talking about the details. The belief is that him going to WWE is now dead and he’s back in AEW for the long term. What he’ll be doing and how the crowd will react to what he’s been doing will be a lot more clear in two weeks when they are out of Canada.”
Jericho is set to appear on the next episode of Dynamite to expand on his recent return.
