AEW World Champion MJF has given the fans an update on his status with Forbidden Door just a few weeks away.
On the June 6 Dynamite, MJF defended the World Title against RUSH, picking up the win with the armbar. In the days that followed, news broke that Maxwell Jacob Fiedman suffered an injury in the match, leaving his future as the champion up in the air.
While a title defence on TV may have been scheduled, MJF’s next match was likely set for the New Japan crossover show, Forbidden Door, on June 28. With this in mind, it remained unknown if MJF would be cleared to compete for the match.
While sat in a cold plunge, the AEW star gave fans an update on his Instagram page. MJF confirmed that he suffered a left knee injury in the match with RUSH. However, in more positive news, the World Champion confirmed that he didn’t have to take time off, and was humble as ever in his address to the fans:
“Very recently, I have hurt my left knee. I hyperextended it in a match against RUSH, who is a bad person. I think we can all agree on that. And honestly, this match happened on Wednesday. It is now, I believe, Tuesday? And my inflammation in my knee has drastically gone down.
“Obviously, there’s still a sh*t ton of inflammation and pain, but being honest with myself, without this cold plunge, I do believe it would have took me a lot longer to start feeling like myself. And honestly, I think Nordic Wave is going to be a big part of ensuring that I don’t have to take any time off, which is imperative for both my career and, frankly, the company of All Elite Wrestling ratings, ticket sales, pay-per-view buys, you name it. You’re welcome.”
Who Could MJF Face At Forbidden Door?
Although no World Title match has been announced at the time of writing, MJF is not short on challengers. Throughout the June 3 episode, multiple names including Mark Briscoe, Andrade and Kevin Knight all announced that they were looking at securing a future World Title opportunity.
No stranger to putting the World Championship on the line at Forbidden Door, MJF retained the title over Hiroshi Tanahashi at the 2023 event.
