MJF is back in AEW and out for revenge.
Making his shock return at AEW Double or Nothing, the former AEW World Champion picked up right where he left off as he confronted Adam Cole, who was revealed to be The Devil the last time that Maxwell Jacob Friedman competed in AEW.
Shortly after the opening match, which saw Will Ospreay defeat Roderick Strong to become the new International Champion, Adam Cole made a surprise appearance in Las Vegas. Cole was also without crutches and walking under his own power as he underwent surgery for a broken ankle towards the end of 2023. Cole berated the crowd and said that he should be at home and rehabbing his injury and not waste his time in front of the fans.
The crowd took over and started to chant MJF, figuring out what was about to happen next. The lights went out and came back on to reveal a video on the big screen. The POV camera went into a room that contained some of the biggest moments from Friedman’s career before the former World Champion made his entrance to a thunderous ovation. First hugging Cole, MJF kicked his former best friend down below before executing a brainbuster onto Cole. Grabbing the microphone, Friedman mocked Cole before stating that although he previously gave him his trust, it wouldn’t be happening again.
With Cole reminding MJF who he is, the former World Champion uttered his “better than you” catchphrase before saying he doesn’t need a New Japan or a Vince McMahon to become a star. Friedman also added that there will be no more shenanigans and it’s all about the hatred moving forward with no one safe from his attacks. Picking up The Devil mask, MJF threw it on the ground and stomped on it before throwing it into the crowd.
Referencing his contract status, MJF revealed his new AEW tattoo and that he bet on himself.
When Was The Last Time MJF Was Seen In AEW?
Having held the championship for over a year following his shock win over Jon Moxley at Double or Nothing 2022, a banged-up Friedman defended the title against Samoa Joe at the first-ever Worlds End pay-per-view. Despite a valiant effort, Samoa Joe defeated Friedman to bring the record-breaking reign to a close.
