Mercedes Mone has made AEW history following her second Owen Hart Tournament win.
Competing at Forbidden Door, Mone defeated Maya World to become the first wrestler to win the tournament for the second year in a row. Mone won the match by hitting the backstabber followed by the statement maker to pick up the submission victory.
The final also featured 2 competitors who were not initially announced for the tournament. Mone was revealed to be the wildcard entry after Willow Nightingale was forced to withdraw due to shoulder injury. Maya World was the replacement for Saree, who was not cleared to compete.
Mone now has a guaranteed opportunity at the Women’s Title at Wembley. The current champion is Thekla, who retained her title over STARDOM star Starlight Kid.
Mercedes Mone Looking For Better Result Following Second Owen Hart Cup Win
Following her victory in the 2025 tournament, Mone went on to All In: Texas to challenge for the Women’s Championship. During this time, Mone was the reigning TBS Champion and also held multiple titles across independent promotions. However, while Mone was able to win gold all around the world, she failed to defeat Toni Storm at All In.
2026 is a different story for Mone, as this time her main focus is on the Women’s Championship.
In the men’s tournament, Will Ospreay defeated Swerve Strickland to book his place at Wembley.
