Matt Hardy Provides Update On Wrestling Future

Matt Hardy

Matt Hardy is open to all offers when it comes to his wrestling future.

On April 8th, news broke that Matt Hardy’s AEW contract had expired and he is officially a free agent. With no non-compete in place, Hardy is free to appear at any show as soon as possible. Although Hardy has frequently flown the flag for AEW and has repeatedly said how happy he has been with the company, the news that he chose not to re-sign came as a surprise to many. Additionally, Hardy was recently spotted at a recent Raw taping in North Carolina.

Discussing his current situation on his Extreme Life podcast, Hardy confirmed that he is a free agent and is assessing his options:

“Sunday night into Monday morning at midnight, that is when my [AEW] contract expired, so yes, I am a free agent right now. Just negotiating, talking. I have interacted with everyone. Still interacting with AEW. And that’s where we’re at right now. Whenever my deal ended up running out, that allowed me the opportunity to negotiate and to speak to everyone available. Really weighing all my options, and that’s what I’m doing right now.”

Hardy, who has been offered an AEW contract, was also asked if he has ruled out a return to the company:

“No, not at all.”

Concluding his thoughts, Hardy explained why he chose to become a free agent and not re-sign with AEW:

“I think as time continued to move on and we were so close to the finish line so to say, I do think I wanted to wait until everything ran out to where I can weigh all my options. I can do things correctly from a legal standpoint and figure out what I want to do next.”

When Did Matt Hardy Last Wrestle?

Hardy last wrestled on the January 5th episode of AEW Rampage, which saw him team with Jeff Heady and Mark Briscoe to defeat Kip Sabian, The Butcher and The Blade. In the past, both Hardys have taken issue with not being featured on the AEW Flagship show.
