Matches Announced For NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 21

The main event is now set for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 21, along with multiple AEW stars confirmed for the event.

The announced matches were confirmed during Power Struggle on November 3. Following his victory over IWGP Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji and Oleg Boltin in a 3-way match, Kenny Omega earned the right to challenge for New Japan’s top title. Omega cut a promo in Japanese after the match, calling his shot for Wrestle Kingdom. Omega added that although he is an AEW wrestler, he would be able to wrestle in Japan more if he was the champion. Omega is a former IWGP Heavyweight Champion in his own right.

Also announced for the show is MJF’s Tokyo Dome debut. MJF appeared via video following Ryohei Oiwa’s match and challenged the G1 Climax winner to a match on January 4, vowing to embarrass the NJPW star in the process. MJF also put his Triple B up for grabs in the match, but he is not recognised as AEW’s top champion. Oiwa accepted the challenge.

British wrestlers Will Ospreay and Callum Newman will also face off at Wrestle Kingdom. The duo were unsuccessful in capturing the IWGP Tag Team Championships at Power Struggle. Newman struck OSKAR of the Knockout Bros. with a chair to cause the DQ, but it wasn’t clear if he was aiming for OSKAR or Ospreay. A brawl between the two former friends broke out after the match, with Newman challenging Ospreay for Wrestle Kingdom. Even though Ospreay is the AEW World Champion, it has not been announced that the title will be at stake.
