A WWE Title match, a return to live programming and more are all set for the September 11 SmackDown.
The first taping of the South America tour is set for the September 11 show with a live edition of the blue brand from Mexico City, Mexico. The end of the September 4 SmackDown saw CM Punk successfully defend the US Championship against Johnny Gargano. After the bell, Punk offered Sami Zayn an opportunity at the gold the following week. Punk was the one who defeated Zayn to win the championship during a Raw taping in Chicago. Incensed at how he lost the championship, Zayn has been campaigning for a rematch ever since.
Other title matches that have been announced for the show include Rey Fenix defending the AAA Cruiserweight Championship, and Chelsea Green defending her WWE Women’s Championship despite dealing with an injury. Additionally, following the heel turn at SummerSlam, Nikki Bella and Paige are set to go one on one.
This will also be the first SmackDown since Sunday Night’s Main Event, which is set to take place on September 6.
