Kenny Omega found out about his AEW return at the same time as everybody else.
Sidelined since December 2023, it was unknown when or if Omega would be making his return to TV. However, ahead of the May 1st episode of Dynamite in Winnipeg, the Canada Life Centre announced that Omega would be making his return. With no teases or announcements from AEW beforehand, this was the first time that many were made aware that Omega would be coming back, including the man himself.
Speaking about the announcement on a Twitch stream, the former World Champion admitted that his involvement in the show was very much a maybe at that point. However, when the arena made the announcement, he felt as if he had no other choice:
“Big news, don’t know if you guys heard it. Kind of surprised to hear it. I remember thinking about maybe, maybe showing up to Winnipeg. It was a maybe. It was really just a maybe. My sister, my parents, my aunt were like, ‘Oh my goodness, we heard the big news.’ ‘What? What big news?’ ‘The arena is advertising your return.’ I’m like, ‘Come on, man.’ I’m 80% on board, maybe. I don’t know, man. I thought, ‘Well, they advertised me,’ that 80 (percent) becomes 100 (percent). I called the boss, ‘Hey man, if you want to run a graphic or something, I guess I’ll show up,'”
Kenny Omega Hospitalised In December 2023
As previously mentioned, Kenny Omega has not competed since late last year. The reason for the absence was because he was hospitalised with Diverticulitis. It was stated that if this was not caught sooner then it could have been fatal.
