John Cena has issued a statement clarifying the rumours on his final WWE match, noting that it really will be the last time fans will see him as a professional wrestler.
The 2025 Cena retirement tour is fast approaching its conclusion with just 4 appearances and 2 matches left for the 17-time World Champion at the time of writing. As has been previously announced, Cena will step inside the ring one last time on December 13 at the final Saturday Night’s Main Event special of the year, against an opponent to be determined.
Although it has been previously stated that Cena will not compete in 2026 and beyond, a section of the wrestling fans have struggled to believe that this will be the case, as wrestling retirements have a habit of not sticking over the years. Despite the fact that the likes of Ric Flair, Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels previously went on record stating that their careers were done, all 3 eventually made their way back for at least one more match.
Taking to social media on October 17, Cena responded to the rumours and gave the fans his word that in December, it would be his final farewell:
Despite any speculation or rumors, on July 6, 2024 I announced I would retire from WWE in ring participation. I am far from perfect but strive to be a person whose word has value. 12/13/25 will be my final match. I am beyond grateful for every moment WWE has given me. I am excited for 12/13 & look forward to seeing all of you one last time.
Surge In Demand To See John Cena In WWE One Final Time
With a career spanning more than 2 decades and gaining millions of fans around the world, the world will be tuning in on December 13 to witness the historic final match. Given Cena’s accomplishments in and out of the ring, many are in agreement that the Hollywood star is deserving of the send-off and is a guaranteed headline inductee into a future WWE Hall of Fame when the time comes.
Although Cena’s last match could have easily filled a stadium, the venue of choice for the occasion will be the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C., which has a capacity of around 15,000. While this will be a guaranteed sell-out, the demand for the show has been 3 times what the arena can hold.
