John Cena Clears Up Last Match Confusion

John Cena Clears Up Last Match Confusion

John Cena has responded to the rumour concerning his last WWE match, and where on the card it will take place.

Cena will compete for the last time at the Saturday Night’s Main Event special in Washington D.C. on December 13 against Gunther. While making media appearances for the occasion, Cena noted that he would be in action on the show, adding that then they would see the exhibition matches between the stars of the present and the stars of the future.

Some fans interpreted the message to mean that Cena would be opening the show, leading to a discussion over which outcome would be the best. On one hand, given that Cena is retiring and he is easily the biggest WWE star of the 21st century, having his final match as the main event seems to be a logical choice. However, if Cena vs. Gunther opened the card, they would be able to have as much time as they needed, and Cena could also avoid what happened to Goldberg where his retirement speech got cut short. However, timing issues are reportedly not going to be a factor, as the show will stream on Peacock and YouTube, and will not have the hard out at the 2-hour mark that previous Saturday Night Main Event specials have.

While appearing as a guest on The Pat McAfee ShowCena addressed the rumours that he may be opening the show, but clarified that uless anything changes at the last minute, he is scheduled to headline:

“That is pizzagate, homie. I was on Jimmy Kimmel, I said I’m ending the show. I said, ‘I normally go to bed early but I’m going to have to stay up late for this one.’ I guess people didn’t read between the tea leaves. We’re last. By the way, I don’t know how the rumour started. I think some folks with credibility like to kick a hornet’s nest every once in a while and get people chattering. I understand, we’re in the age of information so it’s going to keep my attention. ‘You’re not last?’ Sure, that’ll keep my attention for a few clicks. I don’t know how that started. It’s difficult to conceptualise that. I don’t make the menu. If I show up tomorrow and they want me to go on first, that’s what I’m gonna do. But we are last at this moment,”

The full card for the December 13 Saturday Night’s Main Event special is as follows:

  • Cody Rhodes vs. Oba Femi
  • Bayley vs. Sol Ruca
  • AJ Styles and Dragon Lee vs. Je’Von Evans and Leon Slater
  • John Cena vs. Gunther – This will be John Cena’s final match

Will John Cena Win His Last Match?

Fans have also been debating what should be the outcome of Cena’s last match, and if he should follow the tradition of putting someone over on his way out, or end his career on a high. With the match just over a day away, the betting odds for the entire show have been released.
