Jim Ross Taking Time Away From AEW; Gives Contract Update

Jim Ross is taking a few weeks off from AEW TV to heal his leg.

The AEW announcer has stated on Grilling JR that he will be absent from TV for a number of weeks, starting with the November 11th episode of Collision. Ross also stated that multiple weeks of airplane travel have not helped the healing process:

“My doctor believes that if I take a few weeks off, I’m not sure how many, we’ll see, it’s gotta heal,” he said. “Being off an airplane for a few weeks will be good for my leg to heal, so what’s what I’m gonna do.”

It has been widely reported that Ross’ current contract with AEW was either close to expiring or had expired altogether. Later in the show, Ross gave the fans an update on his status, explaining that he still is under contract with the promotion and Tony Khan would like him to stay:

“It’s still got a few months left, and Tony Khan has indicated to me as early as this week, at least to my representative Barry Bloom, he’d like for me to stay,” he said. “I’m not looking to go anywhere. It’s just [that] I need to heal, and that’s all.”

Ross has been a part of AEW since day one, providing announce duties for weekly TV and pay-per-view. Ross has taken more of a part-time role in recent months, predominantly calling the action on Collision each Saturday night. Ross has also conducted multiple backstage interviews.

One week on from the announcement, Jim Ross has provided a health update.

Features of Wrestling would like to wish Jim Ross a full and speedy recovery.
