A major development has occurred in the ongoing lawsuit between Janel Grant and the defendants Vince McMahon and the WWE.
On June 11, 2026, a filing was submitted that saw all parties request that the lawsuit be moved to arbitration. If the request is granted, all further developments regarding the case will be handled in private. This will also mean that the public will not know the outcome, and all parties will likely be required to sign NDAs to prevent details from being known.
The filing, as reported by Brandon Thurston of POST Wrestling, reads as follows:
JOINT MOTION FOR ADJOURNMENT
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the parties respectfully submit this joint motion for a short adjournment of the upcoming hearing on Defendants’ Motions to Compel Arbitration and Plaintiff’s Renewed Motion for Leave to Serve Motion-Related Discovery, which is currently scheduled for June 16, 2026. The parties are in active discussions regarding a potential agreement to arbitrate the dispute in confidential arbitration that would moot those motions. They seek this relief in good faith, to avoid unnecessarily consuming the Court’s and the parties’ resources—and so they can focus on progressing the potential arbitration agreement. The Parties respectfully propose that the Court temporarily adjourn the hearing and allow them to file a Joint Status Report within 21 days.
McMahon and WWE have been pushing to move the case into arbitration, while Hrant persisted to have the trial go public in a court of law. The defendants looked to exercise the arbitration clause in the nondisclosure agreement that Grant signed with McMahon in 2022. However, Grant argued that the arbitration provision shouldn’t be enforced as she was coerced into signing the NDA under duress.
Judge Sarah F. Russell will determine the ruling on the motion.
Janel Grant And Vince McMahon Lawsuit Could Conclude Behind Closed Doors
Grant first filed the lawsuit back in January 2024, which accused Vince McMahon of sexual assault and trafficking, with John Laurinaitis and WWE also being named as defendants. The 67-page document detailed graphic allegations directed at McMahon and Laurinaitis. The following day, McMahon resigned from WWE following major sponsor Slim Jim pausing their association with WWE the day before the Royal Rumble.
Over the next 2 and half years, both parties submitted numerous filings and made numerous statements to provide updates on the cases, with Grant providing additional evidence to support her allegations. Laurinatis first sided with McMahon, but later sided with Grant to be removed from the case. Allegations also were made against Dr. Carlon Colker of the Peak Wellness Clinic, where Grant was sent for treatment by McMahon. Grant alleges that she was given unmarked and unknown medication during this time.
If the arbitration request is granted, this will be the last that the public hears about this case.
