AEW President Tony Khan has recalled how the World Title stipulation for Adam Page was presented to him for Revolution.
In the main event of the first AEW pay-per-view of 2026, Page challenged MJF for the title, but would be unable to challenge for the gold again if he lost. MJF defeated Page at the show, meaning that Page can no longer be the top champion in the company. However, it has been noted that in storyline, this is a term that Page agreed to, and not one officially sanctioned by All Elite Wrestling.
This was not the first time that the stipulation was used. Back in 2019, Cody Rhodes was presented with the same terms when he challenged Chris Jericho for the title. Rhodes lost, and never competed in the main event for his remaining time in the promotion.
Speaking with Case Lowe on Q101, Khan stated that Page was the one who presented the idea to him. Khan also added that he did have reservations over the idea, but admitted it added unpredictability to the matches:
“That was something he asked me about. In that case, knowing what we were doing, I thought that it made a lot of sense for where we were and a lot of time had passed. We were a very new promotion with not as many stars and not as much television when Cody asked for that, and it was a major change. I twas a major change when Hangman asked for it too, but there were a lot of positives and I understood to build the unpredictability, but it’s a huge risk and in each case, the wrestler asked me about it, and I had some reservations, but they were different reservations and the company was in a different position each time and it added unpredictability to a huge world title fight.”
Kenny Omega May Follow Cody Rhodes And Adam Page With World Title Match
World Champion MJF’s next challenger is Kenny Omega, who will face MJF on the July 8 edition of Dynamite. MJF accepted the match on the terms that Omega will also not be able to challenge for the title again. MJF has already defeated Omega twice in their previous outings.
