Gable Steveson’s In-Ring Debut Ends In Double Count-Out

Gable Steveson did not have the dream WWE in-ring debut that he had hoped for.

The Olympic Gold Medalist faced Baron Corbin at the NXT premium Live Event the Great American Bash, with the contest ending in a draw as both men were unable to beat the 10 count to get back in the ring.

Steveson’s entrance was very patriotic, highlighting the Olympian’s accomplishments, and with Steveson wearing the gold medal for the entrance. Steveson utilised offence early on in the match similar to the other Olympic Gold Medal winner to compete in WWE, Kurt Angle.

A ringside brawl took place as the referee started to count. Both competitors ignored the official, ending the match in a double count-out, much to the anger of the live crowd in attendance.

With both Corbin and Steveson refusing to ending the fight, the brawl continued as security and officials tried to separate the two wrestlers. Steveson would stand tall, suplexing Corbin through the barricade.

Steveson made the choice to remain in WWE instead of pursuing further Olympic glory on the July 25th episode of NXT, much to the anger of Baron Corbin. The Lone Wolf warned the former Olympian that he doesn’t belong in WWE, leaving Steveson with a point to prove at the Great American Bash.

Also on the show, new champions were crowned in the opening match of the PLE.
