Ricochet made history at Full Gear by becoming the inaugural AEW National Champion.
Victorious in the Casino Gauntlet match at the November 22 PPV, Ricochet picked up the victory by pinning Kevin Knight after hitting the Spirit Gun to win the match and become the first-ever holder of the new title. Entering the match at number 3, Ricochet also had help from Gates of Agony to give him an assist over the first 2 entrants, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin.
Unlike other multi-man matches that don’t start until all entrants are in the ring, the Casino Gauntlet sees competitors enter the match at random intervals, but the first pinfall or submission results in the victory, which can happen at any time, meaning that the first 2 entrants could finish the match before anyone else is able to participate.
The entry order for the match was as follows:
- Bobby Lashley
- Shelton Benjamin
- Ricochet
- Claudio Castagnoli
- Daniel Garcia
- Orange Cassidy
- Wheeler Yuta
- Kevin Knight
- Roderick Strong
- Mark Davis
- “Speedball” Mike Bailey
- “Daddy Magic” Matt Menard
AEW National Champion Now Active
The National Championship is the latest title to be introduced into All Elite Wrestling, and will shortly be followed by the Women’s Tag Team Championships when the tournament concludes. Speaking on the media call ahead of the show, Tony Khan stated that the title could see outside entrants challenge the champion, and that the champion will defend the gold in other promotions, using ROH Final Battle in December as one of the upcoming defences.
