Following the latest WWE Raw, further details have been provided on how a new Women’s World Champion will be crowned.
During the September 1 episode of the show, which aired live from Paris, General Manager Adam Pearce made the announcement that IYO SKY would face Stephanie Vaquer at Wrestlepalooza on September 20, with the winner capturing the vacant title. Vaquer was originally set to challenge Naomi for the championship at Clash in Paris, but the match was pulled from the card due to the title being vacated 2 weeks prior.
Sky has previously held the championship twice, and was the most recent champion before Naomi cashed in her Money in the Bank contract. Vaquer is yet to win a main roster championship, but is a former NXT Women’s and Women’s North American Champion. Vaquer has also found success in New Japan and in CMLL before signing with WWE.
At the time of writing, this is the only match to be officially announced for Wrestlepalooza. However, it is also expected that John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar will also be announced for the show soon.
Why Has The WWE Women’s World Championship Been Vacated?
The title was vacated as Naomi announced that she is pregnant with her first child. In an emotional address to the fans, Naomi promised that she would be back to reclaim her title and that the roster should continue to proceed with caution.
