One of the WWE SummerSlam matches scheduled to air for free on ESPN appears to be locked in by the company.
As reported by WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, the Intercontinental Championship match between champion Penta and challenger Chad Gable is set to be one of the earlier matches for the 2-night show. The report doesn’t state which night the match is set for.
As part of the new media rights deal between WWE and ESPN, the first hour of Premium Live Events airs for free on ESPN TV. Afterwards, the show can be viewed on the sports network’s subscription service. Beginning at WrestleMania, 2 matches are shown during the first hour of the show.
Penta vs. Chad Gable Set For ESPN Portion Of WWE SummerSlam
Gable won the opportunity to challenge for the title after being the last man standing in a gauntlet match on Raw. With just over a week to go until the show, the announced line-up is currently as follows:
- Roman Reigns (c) vs. Seth Rollins – Singles match for the World Heavyweight Championship
- Liv Morgan (c) vs. IYO SKY – Singles match for the Women’s World Championship
- Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi – Hell in a Cell match
- CM Punk (c) vs. Cody Rhodes – Singles match for the WWE Championship
- Penta (c) vs. Chad Gable – Singles match for the Intercontinental Championship
- LA Knight, Solo Sikoa and Royce Keys vs. The Usos and Jacob Fatu
- Jade Cargill vs. Tiffany Stratton vs. TBD – Ladder match to determine an interim WWE Women’s Champion
- Nick Aldis vs. Gunther
