Drew McIntyre has seen his dreams shattered by CM Punk for the third time in a matter of months.
Thanks to Punk interfering in McIntyre’s business once more, McIntyre was unable to walk out of the Scotiabank Arena as the World Heavyweight Champion. In the opening match of the night, McIntyre unhooked the briefcase to become Mr. Money in the Bank and vowed to cash in the contract later in the night. True to his world, McIntyre made his was to the ring following Seth Rollins seemingly pinning Priest but the referee stopped the count despite the fact that Priest did not kick out.
As Samantha Irvin confirmed that the match would be a triple threat, McIntyre looked set to win until Punk got involved by attacking McIntyre and delivering multiple chair shots to his long-time rival. Following a shot to McInytre with the title, Priest took advantage to hit the South of Heaven and escape with the title for the second consecutive PLE. Additionally, per the terms of the stipulation, Rollins can no longer challenge for the title as long as Priest is still the champion. Additionally, Priest will face his greatest challenge at SummerSlam as he faces off against King of the Ring Gunther.
