Dominik Mysterio has won back the Intercontinental Championship in a big way as he defeated John Cena in the 17-time World Champion’s penultimate match, which also saw Liv Morgan make her return from injury.

Cena put the Intercontinental Championship on the line at Survivor Series after previously winning the title as part of his penultimate Raw appearance in his hometown of Boston. As expected, The Judgment Day got involved throughout the match following a ref bump with Roxanne Perez, Raquel Rodriguez, JD McDonagh, and Finn Balor all providing interference to attempt to give Mysterio the edge, but Cena was able to fight them all off.

The closing moments of the match saw Liv Morgan enter the ring and slap Mysterio to seemingly signal that their alliance had come to an end before jumping into Cena’s arms. However, the betrayal was revealed to be a ruse as Morgan delivered a low blow to Cena and then struck him with the title belt. Mysterio capitalised on the interference to hit the frog splash, win the back and the title back.

The loss brings Cena’s final championship reign to an end at 19 days and now makes Mysterio a 2-time Intercontinental Champion after first winning the title back at WrestleMania 41. The Survivor Series match was Cena’s final time competing at a Premium Live Event. Cena now has just one match left, which will take place at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13. A tournament is ongoing to determine Cena’s last opponent, with Gunther, Jey Uso, LA Knight and Solo Sikoa being the final 4.
