WWE star and former World Champion Damian Priest will be a part of the Netflix comedy movie Steps, which is set to premiere on the platform in the autumn.
The upcoming comedy is loosely based on the Cinderella story with the sisters being centre stage. Steps will show audiences Cinderella’s not-so-evil stepsisters in a new light, and Priest will play the role of Cracktor.
Speaking to the streaming service as part of early promotion for the movie, Priest spoke about using his experience as a WWE star to make his character come to life:
“As WWE Superstars, we use our voices as an extension of our onscreen character. I enjoyed channeling that energy into making Cracktor feel intense and larger than life. I think people are going to be surprised by how much of a show-stealing character he is.”
The movie will be directed by Alyce Tzue (Student Academy Awards gold medal winner) and John Ripa (co-director of Raya and the Last Dragon). It has also been previously announced that Ali Wong (BEEF) and Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once) will play Cinderella’s “evil” stepsisters, Lilith and Margot.
The movie is also the first to be fully animated in-house at the Netflix animation studios, marking the next chapter in filmmaking for the service. Netflix sent the following to Features of Wrestling about the plot of the movie:
“Think you know Cinderella’s evil stepsisters? Think again. Tired of living in Cinderella’s shadow, Lilith (Wong) steals the Fairy Godmother’s (Midler) magic wand and hijacks the Royal Ball with her sister, Margot (Hsu). This dooms the kingdom to the tyrannical rule of the villainous Priscilla, who swoops in and snatches the throne. Now, Lilith must team up with Cinderella (Seyfried) to fight biker trolls, outrun evil henchmen, and escape the Screaming Woods. Breaking with the Cinderella story as we know it, they go on an epic quest to save the kingdom — but most importantly, they must save their relationship.”
Priest is currently one half of the WWE Tag Team Champions alongside R-Truth. Priest also previously re-signed a new deal with WWE.
