The live-action movie Coyote vs. Acme, which was originally set to be scrapped by Warner Bros., has proven to be a big hit at the box office.
According to The Numbers, the 2026 movie, which stars former WWE Champion John Cena, has now surpassed $40 million at the worldwide box office. Back in November 2023, the studio planned to shelve the movie in favour of a $30 million tax write-off. However, following backlash from fans, Warner Bros. allowed other distributors to pick up the film. Ketchup Entertainment acquired the film’s distribution rights for $50 million, and the movie finally hit screens in late August.
Coyote vs. Acme performed especially well over Labor Day weekend in the States, despite there being strong competition from big blockbusters The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. As well as being a hit with fans, the movie holds a 96% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. With the success of the film both financially and critically, fans are of the belief that Warner Bros. made the wrong decision to try and write the movie off. If this were the case, the film would have never hit movie theatres.

The movie is based on the popular Looney Tunes cartoon. The plot sees Wile E. Coyote sue the Acme Corporation after being repeatedly sold faulty products while attempting to catch the roadrunner. Cena plays the role of Buddy Crane, the lawyer representing Acme.
