Cody Rhodes has addressed his long-term future in WWE and how he is already considering his final contract.
While appearing on the All The Smoke podcast with Matt Brnes, the WWE Champion stated that the next WWE contract he signs will very likely be the final one, meaning that The American Nightmare is contemplating bringing his in-ring career to an end:
“The next contract I sign with WWE is probably going to be my last, and finish my days with WWE. It’s the house that built me, and it’s the house that brought me back.”
Rhodes also acknowledged that he can only wrestle for so long, adding that his health and family are the number one priority for him:
“You can only go so long. And I think I know my number, where I’d like to get with this. I was lucky that my dad, who I thought was the best dad ever, he was out of the game. He was in it as a producer and in it as a creator, pop in here as an old man wrestler every now and then, but he was out of the game. So he was No. 1 Dad, at every game, he coached our football team. He’s known in Cobb County as ‘Coach’ more than ‘the American Dream.’ I’d like to make it by the time I hit that age that I’m not gone that often or I can’t really walk around that much.”
Rhodes is currently in his second reign as WWE Champion after defeating John Cena in the main event of SummerSlam night 2 back in August. The former AEW wrestler and executive made his return to the company in 2022 after first asking for his release back in 2016. Rhodes has been presented as a top star ever since his return, proving those who doubted him wrong by making a name for himself outside of WWE.
What Is Cody Rhodes’ Current Contract Situation?
In late 2023, it was reported that Rhodes was one of many names to have signed a new, lucrative deal to remain with the company for years to come, which Rhodes confirmed in March 2024. Throughout 2023 and 2024, many of the top names in WWE saw their deals close to expiration as they were signed back in 2018 and 2019 to prevent discussions with new promotion AEW. Other names who re-signed during that period included Seth Rollins, Charlotte Flair, Rey and Dominik Mysterio, and Bayley.
