CM Punk has admitted that he should have done better with a particular promo he cut on WWE Raw.
World Heavyweight Champion Punk is set to put the title on the line against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42 in the main event of night 2. Things got personal between the two men in the build-up to the match as they exchanged insults. Reigns has called out Punk for leaving when things got tough, while Punk has claimed that Reigns can’t get the job done on his own, adding that Reigns has been handed everything in wrestling while Punk had to fight for his spot.
However, during one segment between champion and challenger, Punk brought up Reigns’ father, Sika of The Wild Samoans, who passed away in 2024. Punk said that he would bury Reigns next to his father, which Punk apologised for on the go-home Raw before their WrestleMania match.
“I Know I’m Better Than That”: CM Punk On WWE Raw Promo
Speaking with Corey Graves for a sit-down interview with WWE, Punk stated that he felt “a little bit gross” about what he said, then elaborated on his respect for The Wild Samoans:
“I 100% crossed the line, because that’s what I do. I’m a gold medalist habitual linestepper because I will f*ck with you and get in your head. I have all the respect in the world for Sika, Afa, all the Wild Samoans. He [Roman] needs to be taught a lesson. So yeah, I crossed the line. I legitimately feel a little bit gross about it because it’s low-hanging fruit and I know I’m better than that, but I’m doing what I have to and I’m following my game plan.”
When asked why he didn’t think that Reigns couldn’t get it done on his own on Sunday, Punk spoke about Reigns’ history. From The Shield to The Big Dog to The Bloodline, Punk pointed out all the times that Reigns needed back-up to ensure that he got his hand raised when all was said and done.
