More information has emerged regarding WWE using AI, which has provided more context on the use of the divisive software.
On October 17, Dave Meltzer reported in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Cyrus Kowsari, who was hired as the Senior Director of Creative Strategy in early October, would be using AI more as part of day-to-day operations within the company. On top of the use of the tool to create graphics and aid with video packages, it was also rumoured that AI could be used to create/further storylines, with one bizarre pitch being included in the report as an example:
“(The platform) pitched a storyline where Bobby Lashley, who I guess AI thought was still with the company, could come back as a wrestler who was obsessed with Japanese culture and history. But the feeling is once bugs are worked out that AI will begin to have major impact on storyline direction,”
The report quickly circulated online, with many fans finding the report absurd and hilarious, but were not quick to dismiss it. Additionally, with the current product being a step down in quality compared to previous years, some even speculated that AI may have booked some recent storylines. However, following another update over the weekend, artificial intelligence has not been that involved in how the show is put together.
How WWE Will Use AI
In a follow-up report by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, it is noted that AI has been used more as an assistant than writing the show for them, with one example being to find out the last time 2 wrestlers had a match with one another. Additionally, it is noted that those within the company are under the impression that the new hire is using AI to do things such as remove background noise from shots or organise files, which would help with the workload of the staff.
The report also makes it very clear that AI would not be replacing the creative team, with one top talent taking exception to the fact that computer-generated storylines would be happening.
