Bron Breakker could have been in the main event of WrestleMania if plans for a Royal Rumble victory had remained.
Following a breakout year in 2025, the former Intercontinental Champion looked set to be one of the rising stars of 2026. With many seeing Breakker as a future World Champion, the second-generation star was a heavy favourite heading into the Royal Rumble. While he did not win the match, the option was discussed.
As seen in footage during the Netflix docuseries WWE Unreal, the creative team are seen discussing the possibility. However, Paul Levesque had his reservations, noting that the moment may have felt forced:
“The risk with Bron Breakker is everything from can he actually do it? Can he mentally handle it? Will fans accept it? So you have to really be sure. I think you can make a shocking moment out of it, but I still worry a little bit that it feels like you’re just shoving him down your throat.”
Ultimately, the match was won by Roman Reigns. Last eliminating Gunther, Reigns went on to WrestleMania 42, where he defeated CM Punk in the main event of night two to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
What Happened To Bron Breakker At 2026 Royal Rumble?
Breakker drew the number two entry in the match, and looked set to face off against Oba Fami in the opening stint. However, Breakker was attacked by a masked figure while making his entrance. Thrown into the ring, Breakker was eliminated by Femi seconds later. Shortly afterwards, news broke that Breakker required emergency hernia surgery, but this was not the reason for his quick elimination.
Although Breakker did challenge CM Punk for the World Title on the first Raw of 2026, he has not challenged for a top championship since. Still a part of The Vision, Breakker is currently one half of the World Tag Team Champions alongside Austin Theory.
Also on WWE Unreal, John Cena elaborated on his plans to “ruin wrestling.”
