A line uttered by Carlito on Raw has understandably caused some concern online.
In a backstage segment that aired on the October 21st episode of WWE Raw, Iyo Sky and Kairi Sane were seen in Adam Pearce’s office. As Sky and Sane made their exit, Carlito walked into shot and uttered the line “I gotta learn Chinese.” Both Sky and Sane are Japanese wrestlers and Sky previously suffered racial abuse while in NXT with one fan yelling at her to “Go back to China.” The line has since been removed from all official broadcasts with only clips on social media accounts airing the unedited footage. Described as insensitive by many and a very poor attempt at comedy, the remark by the Raw star has created backlash with some questioning where this pitch came from.
More Information On Carlito Line
In a further update by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, “The claim internally from at least one staff member was that the line was not scripted, and that they had spoken to were in disbelief that it was said.” Additionally, a number of those within the company “weren’t happy” that it happened. At the time of writing, there have been no further updates regarding any further action being taken.
