Austin Theory Opens Up About Failed WWE Money In The Bank Cash-In

Austin Theory has looked back on the night when he made history in all the wrong ways with his Money in the Bank cash-in.

Theory captured the briefcase in 2022 after being added to the match on short notice. With Theory being aligned with Vince McMahon at this point as a potential protege, the former United States Champion looked set to be featured more prominently on TV.

However, during the time when Theory had the briefcase, Roman Reigns was in the middle of his historic 1,316-day reign as Undisputed Champion. With Reigns having held the title for so long, few expected Theory to be the one to dethrone The Tribal Chief.

With this in mind, many expected there to be a failed cash-in from Theory. However, Theory instead chose to cash in his opportunity on US Champion Seth Rollins. Despite having the advantage, Theory still lost the match and squandered his opportunity.

“It Sucked”: Austin Theory On Failed Money In The Bank Cash-In

Appearing on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, the former Tag Team Champion recalled that night. Theory stated that there was a good build-up to the moment, but wished that they could have done more:

“Yes. I’m gonna go run the play always if we really need it to be this way. I think for me I felt like, even with the moment I had with Roman, it was, I believe, at Barclays Center; he hit me with the ‘your daddy’s not here anymore’. In that moment I wanted to say the same thing to him, because in a way it’s like he’s a Vince guy as well. Not in a way he was,” Theory said.

“I felt like there could have been a moment; I knew I wasn’t gonna get the title off Roman, but even just building it to seem like ‘oh, here we go’. I can lose to him, whatever, but just give it more of a payoff, because it felt cool man; I did a lot of cool things with it.

Theory also noted that he has the dented briefcase, which was damaged after he was attacked by Brock Lesnar:

“It’s funny how I have it in my office hanging, and it’s real dented, and people see it and go ‘You murdered people with that huh?’ I’m like, ‘No, Brock Lesnar murdered me with it, and it sucked,’”

Theory recently held the World Tag Team Championships alongside Bron Breakker, but lost the titles to The Street Profits on the June 22 WWE Raw. The Vision will receive their rematch against The Profits on the next episode of the show.
