An AEW veteran believes that there is only one match that should headline WrestleMania 40.
The main event of The Show of Shows in 2023 did not end as many had expected. With a packed SoFi Stadium cheering on Cody Rhodes, The American Nightmare looked to be a near guarantee to finish the story and dethrone Roma Reigns. Unfortunately, like many of The Tribal Chief’s title defences, Rhodes was pinned following Bloodline interference.
With it being apparent that Rhodes had not faced enough adversity, the winner of the 2023 Royal Rumble would defeat Brock Lesnar and begin his quest for revenge in Philadelphia. However, all would change on January 1st.
With The Rock returning to WWE and effectively challenging Roman Reigns to a future match, the main event of WrestleMania 40 has been thrown into chaos as there is no clear challenger for Reigns. For someone who knows The American Nightmare well, they hope it’s still Rhodes’ time.
AEW’s Dustin Rhodes recently spoke with Sports Illustrated about his upcoming match against TNT Champion Christian Cage on AEW Dynamite. Naturally, the topic of Cody Rhodes would come up. Despite his brother being in a rival company, Rhodes still keeps track:
“I’m always looking out for Cody,” said Rhodes. “So I’m always watching.”
“I hope Cody’s in the main event spot against Roman,” said Rhodes. “Or it’s going to be The Rock. If it is The Rock, I’m pissed–this is Cody’s time. He is becoming the face of the company, and it’s paying off. But I get it. If it is The Rock, it’s still good business. I understand that there are a lot of people who love seeing The Rock. But I still think it’s Cody’s moment.”
Cody Rhodes To Remain With WWE
While there are many uncertainties in wrestling in the next 12 months, one thing that is guaranteed is Rhodes’ future. Shortly before the Christmas break, news broke that Cody Rhodes will remain with WWE for the foreseeable future.
