AEW Dynamite kicked off the new year on January 7 with a No DQ match and more taking place on the show.
The Opps’ HOOK and Powerhouse Hobbs teamed up on the show to take on Swerve Strickland and Adam Page. With bad blood between both sides, especially as HOOK cost Page the World Title at Full Gear, the match was an unsanctioned match.
After evading Adam Page and Swerve Strickland on last week’s show, World Champion MJF appeared live once more as the roster looks to make their case to be first in line for a shot at the Triple B.
AEW Dynamite Results January 7:
- Jim Ross was welcomed back to commentary by ring announcer Justin Roberts.
- Jon Moxley defeated Shelton Benjamin in a Continental Championship Eliminator match. There were just 5 seconds left on the clock when the win happened.
- Jack Perry and The Young Bucks defeated Ricochet and Gates of Agony. The Bucks and Perry were attacked after the match by The Don Callis Family. JetSpeed tried to make the save. The lights went out and Andrade El Idolo stood tall, making his second appearance on AEW TV since leaving WWE.
- Willow Nightingale celebrated her TBS Title victory, but was interrupted by Mercedes Mone. The CEO was sent into the cake that was in the ring.
- Bandido defeated Sammy Guevara. MJF interrupted the celebrations and tried to take back his Dynamite Diamond Ring, but was taken out by the ROH World Champion.
- Toni Storm vs. Marina Shafir ended in a no contest when Wheeler Yuta stopped the referee from counting the pin. Shafir attacked Storm and Mina Shirakawa after the match. Orange Cassidy and Roderick Strong arrived for the save, and The Deathriders retreated.
- Swerve Strickland and Adam Page defeated HOOK and Powerhouse Hobbs in a lights out match.
