The last eight fixtures of the AEW Continental Cup have been announced, and Nigel McGuinness will remain a part of the line-up.
August 17 saw All Elite Wrestling announce the four quarterfinal matches for its latest tournament. Those who qualified entered a blind draw to determine their opponent as opposed to the traditional bracket format. The draw saw Continental Champion Jon Moxley matched up with Jay White, and Orange Cassidy set to take on fellow Conglomortation ally Kyle O’Reilly. The quarterfinal fixtures are as follows:
- Jon Moxley vs. Jay White
- Orange Cassidy vs. Kyle O’Reilly
- Eddie Kingston vs. Claudio Castagnoli
- Nigel McGuinness vs. Hechicero
Nigel McGuinness Confirms He Won’t Withdraw From Continental Challenge Cup
During the Continental Cup selection video, Nigel McGuinness was seen in the locker room wearing a walking boot. McGuinness stated that although there was no break or strain, his foot “hurt like hell.” Despite this, the wrestler and announcer vowed to continue in the tournament and that someone else would have to stop him from competing. McGuinness suffered his injury in his match with Katsuyori Shibata on the August 15 episode of Collision.
The Continental Challenge Cup will culminate with the final taking place at All In on August 30 inside Wembley Stadium. The winner will receive a commemorative trophy as well as the Continental Championship.
