Cody Rhodes Wins WWE Royal Rumble

Cody Rhodes is going to WrestleMania.

Rhodes won the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match from the number 30 entrant, with the Men’s match being the first one of the Premium Live Event.

The American Nightmare won the match by last eliminating Gunther. The Intercontinental Champion entered the match at number one, also setting the new record for the longest time spent in a regular Royal Rumble match.

Rhodes return was announced two weeks before the event, with multiple recovery video packages shown throughout Raw and SmackDown leading up to the event. It appears that Cody Rhodes will challenge Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, as Reigns successfully defended the title in the main event against Kevin Owens.

The Men’s Royal Rumble match featured Booker T in the legends spot and Logan Paul also returning from injury. The match only had 29 competitors, with Rey Mysterio not appearing in the number 17 spot. Dominik Mysterio appeared with his father’s mask in hand in the number 18 spot, seemingly signifying that The Judgment Day were responsible for the attack.

Edge also made his return at the number 24 spot, targeting The Judgment Day, who were the ones that initially put him on the shelf with injury in storyline. As Priest and Balor were retreating to the back, Rhea Ripley attempted to intervene. However, Ripley was then the victim of a spear from Beth Phoenix on the entrance ramp.

Other highlights of the Royal Rumble match include Brock Lesnar being eliminated quickly by Bobby Lashley and a mid air collision between Ricochet and Logan Paul.
