The fallout from Backlash continued on the May 15 WWE SmackDown.
At Backlash, Trick Williams successfully defended the US Championship against Sami Zayn. With Trick Williams from South Carolina, the hometown hero celebrated his latest title defence on the show.
Additionally, Gunther gave his answer as to whether or not he would challenge Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship at Clash in Italy.
Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett were on commentary. Mark Nash was the ring announcer.
WWE SmackDown Results May 15:
- South Carolina’s own Trick Williams officially opened the show. The US Champion received a huge ovation from the fans as he made his entrance with Lil Yachty. After Williams spoke about growing up in the area, The Miz and Trick Williams interrupted. Wilson read some slam poetry, and Yachty responded with freestyle rap. Miz called for a referee to take on Williams.
- Trick Williams defeated The Miz.
- Paige and Brie Bella defeated Giulia and Kiana James.
- Cody Rhodes called out Gunther to sign the contract for their WWE Championship match. Gunther hesitated, leading to Royce Keys interrupting. Keys said that if Gunther wouldn’t sign the contract, he would. A number one contenders match was booked for later in the show.
- Carmelo Hayes defeated Ricky Saints.
- Damian Priest defeated Tama Tonga. The match was originally set to be Priest and R-Truth vs. Tama Tonga and Talla Tonga, but Truth was not cleared to compete.
- Danhausen performed another experiment backstage, but the results are unknown.
- Jade Cargill spoke about her attack on Rhea Ripley. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss interrupted.
- Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss defeated B-Fab and Michin via DQ when Cargill attacked Bliss.
- Gunther defeated Royce Keys. Solo Sikos attempted to help Keys, but Keys refused the offer.
Also on May 15, WWE NXT presented a live event in Buffalo, New York.
