A new era began on the January 3rd edition of WWE SmackDown.

Kicking off 2025, the first SmackDown of the year was the first 3-hour edition of the blue brand following the announcement at the end of 2024 that the show would be 3 hours moving forward. Matches announced ahead of time were Nia Jax defending the Women’s Championship against Naomi and United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura in action against Andrade in a non-title match.

Michael Cole and Wade Barrett were the announce team, for the show with Lilian Garcia debuting as the ring announcer following the latest WWE shake-up.

The Following Results Took Place On WWE SmackDown:

  • After a recap of last week’s show, Cody Rhodes officially opened the show. Rhodes stated that he is still not medically cleared to compete and was interrupted by Drew McIntyre, who stated that he needed an ally. Owens attacked Rhodes and another brawl ensued
  • Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Andrade. After the match, LA Knight attacked Nakamura
  • Michin defeated Piper Niven
  • Paul Heyman appeared live to address the upcoming Tribal Combat match between Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa. Sikoa interrupted The Wiseman and stated that Heyman should hold the ula fala to protect it
  • Motor City Machine Guns vs. DIY ended in a no contest due to interference from Pretty Deadly and Angle & Berto
  • Nia Jax defeated Naomi to retain the WWE Women’s Championship. After the match Tiffany Stratton attacked Jax, cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase and became the new Women’s Champion
  • The New Bloodline defeated The Usos and Sami Zayn
