WWE SmackDown Results August 8

The fallout from SummerSlam continued and more took place on the August 8 episode of WWE SmackDown.

The main event of night 2 of SummerSlam saw Cody Rhodes defeat John Cena to win back the WWE Championship for a second time. On SmackDown, both Cena and Rhodes appeared live to address what was next for them on the road to Clash in Paris on August 31. Additionally, Motor City Machine Guns faced MFTs and Charlotte Flair was in action against Chelsea Green.

Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett were on commentary for the show.

WWE SmackDown Results August 8:

  • Following a recap of SummerSlam, John Cena appeared live to officially kick off the show. As the show was in Canada, Cena referenced the lively crowd and how they have been known to hijack the show. Cena then stated that the fans were the show and that he was always happy to hear them be as raucous as possible. Cena noted that he was scared that the fans might forget him when he was gone, before referencing the Brock Lesnar attack at SummerSlam. Cena was then interrupted by Logan Paul, who challenged Cena to a match at Clash in Paris, which was later made official. Paul and Drew McIntyre beat down Cena until Cody Rhodes made the save. A tag match was booked for the main event.
  • JC Mateo and Talla Tonga defeated Motor City Machine Guns.
  • Sami Zayn defeated US Champion Solo Sikoa in a non-title match.
  • Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss appeared live to celebrate their win at SummerSlam before being interrupted by Chelsea Green and The Secret Hervice. Flair defeated Green with Green landing face-first into a cake shortly before the finish.
  • Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre vs. John Cena and Cody Rhodes ended in DQ when Paul hit a low blow onto Cena. Paul and Cena fought to the back, leaving McIntyre and Rhodes to brawl. McIntyre hit Rhodes with the title and sent the WWE Champion through the announce table.

Also on August 8, WWE NXT hosted a live event in Davenport, Florida.
