The fallout from WrestleMania 42 continued on the April 24 WWE SmackDown, which also saw a title change take place.
The first SmackDown following WrestleMania saw WWE Champion Cody Rhodes appear live. The American Nightmare successfully defended the title against Randy Orton in the main event of night 1 and addressed what was next for him in WWE.
Additionally, new US Champion Trick Williams appeared live, along with Giulia defending her Women’s United States Championship.
Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett were on commentary for the show.
WWE SmackDown Results April 24:
- Following a recap of WrestleMania 42, Jacob Fatu officially opened the show. Fatu spoke about his challenge to Roman Reigns on the Raw after WrestleMania and how he felt ready to fight The OTC. The Usos interrupted. Jimmy advised Fatu to join the family and not go after Reigns, but Jey told Fatu that it was too late for that. Solom Sikoa and The MFTs then interrupted. Sikoa reminded Fatu that he was the one who brought him into WWE, adding that he has an army to fight Reigns. Fatu challenged Sioa to a match later in the night.
- Tiffany Stratton defeated Giulia to become the new Women’s United States Champion.
- Paige and Brie Bella looked to celebrate their Tag Team Championship victory, but were interrupted by Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss. The match went to a no contest when Jacy Jayne, Lainey Reid and Fallon Henley all interfered.
- Cody Rhodes appeared live and said that he welcomes all challengers to the WWE Championship.
- R-Truth and Damian Priest defeated Tama Tonga and JC Mateo to retain the Tag Team Championships.
- Trick Williams and Lil Yachty appeared live. Williams said that the US Title open challenges had come to an end, but was attacked by the gingerbread man mascot, who was revealed to be Sami Zayn.
- Danhausen defeated The Miz.
- Rhea Ripley vs. Jacy Jayne ended in DQ when Fatal Influence interfered. The heels stood tall.
- Jacob Fatu defeated Solo Sikoa and stood tall over all The MFTs to close out the show.
Also on April 24, news broke that multiple names had been released from the company.
