After 23 years, John Cena brings his historic in-ring career to an end at the December 13 WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event special in Washington, D.C.
Following a year-long retirement tour that has included a heel turn, a record-breaking 17th WWE Championship reign and appearances all over the world, Cena will step into the ring one final time against Gunther, which has been confirmed to be the main event of the show. Not one to be respectful of Cena’s final match, Gunther has promised to make the Hollywood star give up and embarrass the future Hall of Famer in his final outing. Given the magnitude of the event, the show is sold out and is also reportedly se to break the arena gate for the venue.
While nothing has been announced, it is expected that many stars from Cena’s past will be in attendance for the occasion.
As this is a streaming special and not a standard episode of TV or a Premium Live Event, Lilian Garcia will serve as the ring announcer and will be the one to introduce Cena for the last time.
Other matches set to take place on the night will see the stars of today take on the rising stars of NXT and TNA. Along with WWE Champion Rhodes facing NXT Champion Oba Femi, Bayley will face Sol Ruca, and the World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Dragon Lee will face NXT star Je’Von Evans and TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater. No titles will be on the line on the show.
