WWE Fastlane 2023 Review

WWE Fastlane aired live from the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. Michael Cole announced 14,529 fans were in attendance.

Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso defeated Finn Balor and Damian Priest – Priest and Uso started the match. Rhodes and Uso utilised the quick tags before Priest blindsided Uso. Rhodes got the hot tag which got a good pop from the crowd. Rhodes ran wild on Priest and Balor including a stalling superplex from the second rope. Uso and Priest were tagged in and had a good sequence. Priest was thrown outside and hit with a suicide dive and Uso Splash, but Balor broke up the pin. Uso hit Priest with a spear, which brought out Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio. Balor hit the Coup de Grace but Rhodes broke up the pin. Priest began to sell the leg and Uso was hit with the briefcase but Uso kicked out. Rhodes hit Priest with a Cross Rhodes on the announce table and then a Cross Rhodes onto Balor in the ring to win the match and the championships – ***½

Rey Mysterio, Santos Escobar and Carlito defeated Bobby Lashley, Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins – Mysterio and Escobar came to the ring without their mystery partner, electing to start the match at a disadvantage. The duo started the match valiantly but were quickly the victim of the numbers game. Mysterio and Escobar struggled to gain momentum, dominated by the trio. Mysterio briefly got back in the match but had no one to tag. Carlito’s music hit and was revealed to be the mystery partner – **

IYO SKY defeated Charlotte Flair and Asuka – Asuka hit Flair with the mist in the opening moments. The match turned into a one on one encounter as Flair was attended to. SKY attempted quick pins before Flair came back into the match. All 3 competitors remained in the ring for a sustained period of time. Flair hit a double cross body and the crowd made it clear they did not want Flair to win the match. Sky and Asuka continued to work together to try and take out Flair. Sky hit a moonsault to the outside followed by Flair doing the same. A great tower of doom spot resulted in some near falls. Flair hit a spear but Asuka kicked out. Bayley came to ringside to try and encourage SKY but SKY wanted none of it. SKY hit a moonsault onto Flair to win the match – ***½

John Cena and LA Knight defeated Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa – Pat McAfee came to the ring and pitched a WrestleMania for Indianapolis. McAfee then introduced John Cena and made his way to the commentary desk. The crowd were firmly behind Cena and Knight from the outset. Cena got the best of Uso before demanding Sikoa to get in the ring. Cena was isolated to allow The Bloodline to take control. Cena continued to be isolated as the crowd desperately wanted Knight to be in the match. Cena hit an Attitude Adjustment onto Uso to cause a double down. Cena was close to tagging in Knight but Sikoa prevented the tag. Knight was finally tagged in to the delight of the crowd. Cena hit a top rope dive but was then hit with a splash by Uso. Knight leaped to the top rope to hit a superplex and a BFT onto Uso to win the match – ***

Seth Rollins defeated Shinsuke Nakamura – Rollins went for the kendo stick from the start but was neutralised by Nakamura. Rollins exposed the concrete and attempted to use the steps but Nakamura dodged it. Nakamura brought in nun chucks to target the leg and injured back of Rollins. Multiple spots saw Rollins down but answer the count at around 7. Nakamura charged at Rollins but missed and collided with a table. Rollins hit a stomp but Nakamura got up at 8. Rollins brought a ladder into play and set it up next to the announce table. Rollins chased Nakamura into the crowd with a chair. Nakamura hit a low blow on Rollins and threw him off a platform to the floor below, with Rollins getting up at 9. Back at ringside and Rollins was dropped onto the exposed concrete. Rollins was driven through a table but got up at 9 once again. Both men climbed up the ladder, Nakamura hit the mist and Rollins crashed through the announce table, getting up at 9. Rollins once again was driven through a table and got up at 9. Rollins hit a Falcon Arrow through a table to win the match – ****
