The first Premium Live Event since WrestleMania 41, WWE Backlash saw 4 title matches take place and Pat McAfee in action against Gunther.
After losing the World Heavyweight Championship to Jey Uso at WrestleMania, an irate Gunther took out his frustrations on Michael Cole and Pat McAfee. Looking to prove that he can’t be pushed around, McAfee faced The Ring General in what was his first match in over 3 years. Additionally, Becky Lynch challenged Lyra Valkyria for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship and Jacob Fatu defended the United States Championship in a 4-way match.
In the main event, St. Louis’ own Randy Orton looked to win his 15th World Championship as he challenged John Cena in what was Cena’s first defence since winning the title back at Mania.
Michael Cole and Wade Barrett were the announce team for the show. 17,155 was the announced attendance for Backlash.
