Jeff Cobb Makes WWE Debut At Backlash

The rumours are true, Jeff Cobb is now a member of the WWE roster, making his shock debut at Backlash.

Making his presence felt in the opening match of the show, Cobb interfered in the opening match that saw United States Champion Jacob Fatu put the title on the line against Drew McIntyre, LA Knight and Damian Priest. After Priest took out McIntyre in the crowd, Knight placed Fatu on the announce table and looked to hit an elbow on the champion. However, following Solo Sikoa dragging Fatu off the announce table, Cobb attacked Knight over the barricade.

Aligning himself with Sikoa, Cobb helped Fatu retain the title. However, after the match, the champion did not look happy to see Sikoa’s newest ally.

It was rumoured earlier in the year that Cobb would be joining WWE after the former NJPW star announced his exit from the promotion in what was the first in a series of high-profile departures. Cobb was also one-half of the IWGP Tag Team Champions when the exit was announced, meaning that the title was vacated.

Who Is Jeff Cobb?

Along with previous stints in Lucha Underground and PWG, Cobb is best known for his time in New Japan. A former member of the United Empire faction, Cobb is also a former NEVER Openweight Champion and 3-time IWGP Tag Team Champion. Cobb also has a background in amateur wrestling.

As part of the ongoing relationship between AEW and NJPW, Cobb also competed at multiple AEW events during his time with New Japan.
