The first Premium Live Event since WrestleMania 41, WWE Backlash will see John Cena in action, 4 title matches and more take place on the show.
After defeating Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 41 to win his 17th World Championship, John Cena will put the title on the line for the first time. Cena’s opponent is someone who he is very familiar with, none other than long-time rival and St. Louis’ own Randy Orton, who is expected to receive a huge ovation from the fans. Cena and Orton have history that goes back decades as they have both been a part of WWE for more than 20 years. Orton has been getting the better of Cena multiple times heading into the show, and looks to put Cena’s record-breaking reign to an end.
Also at WrestleMania 41, Gunther lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Jey Uso. Taking out his frustrations on the Raw after Mania, Gunther attacked Raw announcer Pat McAfee. Looking to prove that he can’t be intimidated, McAfee will take on The Ring General.
In what is the only women’s championship match on the show, Becky Lynch will challenge Lyra Valkyria for the Women’s Intercontinental Title. Lynch made her return to WWE at WrestleMania to win the Women’s Tag Titles with Valkyria. However, as the duo lost the titles the next night, Lynch turned heel and attacked Valkyria, setting up the title match for Backlash.
