WWE Backlash 2026 looks set to return to a location that will be very popular with the fans!
As reported by John Pollock and Brandon Thurston of POST Wrestling on December 26, the Premium Live Event is set to take place in Puerto Rico next year, marking the return to the island following a successful 2023 show. Although the report does not outright confirm the date of the event, sources have told Pollock and Thurston that the pencilled-in date is currently Saturday, May 9.
Traditionally, Backlash has been the first major show to take place following WrestleMania, which will take place on April 18 and 19 in Las Vegas for the second consecutive year. The report also references the 2023 show, which also included a SmackDown taping the night before, as having a “$1.5 million subsidy and a $300,000 “in-kind contribution” provided by the Puerto Rico Conventions District Authority.” More than 15,000 fans were in attendance for Backlash 2023, which generated a gate of nearly $1.5 million.
WWE Backlash 2026 Seemingly Set For Puerto Rico Return
Although the previous Puerto Rico Backlash was headlined by Cody Rhodes defeating Brock Lesnar in the second match of their trilogy, the match that got everyone talking was musician Bad Bunny defeating Damian Priest in a street fight. Along with an all time entrance that saw the fans sing along en masse, the street fight also saw cameo appearances from a returning Carlito and Savio Vega.
POST Wrestling also notes that Bad Bunny currently has no tour dates around the time of the 2026 show, meaning that there is a strong possibility that the Grammy Award winner could be a part of the event.
