Thanks to one last pin in the final few seconds, Will Ospreay was able to win the first-ever AEW Clockwork Carnage match.
The multi-man match debuted at WrestleDream, which saw Ospreay put his title on the line against Kazuchika Okada, Samoa Joe, Mike Bailey, Adam Copeland, Konosuke Takeshita, Ricochet, and Darby Allin.
Part gauntlet and part Iron Man, the rules of the match were as follows:
- 2 wrestlers start the match
- Every 3 minutes, another wrestler enters
- Until all 8 wrestlers have entered, any wrestler who is pinned or submitted is eliminated
- Once the final wrestler enters, all remaining wrestlers enter a 15-minute scoring period
- During those 15 minutes, every pinfall or submission scores one fall
- When time expires, the wrestler with the most falls wins and is the World Champion
Ospreay and Takeshita started the match, followed by Bailey, Ricochet, Allin and Okada. Takeshita eliminated Bailey from the match before Copeland made his entrance at number 7. Okada eliminated Takeshita before Samoa Joe entered in the final spot, meaning that 6 competitors advanced to the scoring stage. Ospreay, Copeland, Allin and Joe were all tied at 2 falls each in the closing moments, but Ospreay was able to get one last fall over Copeland before the clock ran out.
Ospreay and Copeland shook hands after the match. Ospreay won the championship by defeating Kenny Omega in the main event of All In: Wembley. Prior to the match, Copeland announced that 2027 would be his final year in wrestling.
