AEW star Will Ospreay has opened up about the injuries he has been dealing with and when he intends to have surgery, which could put him out of action for a long time.
The former International Champion was briefly written off TV at All In when he was attacked by The Deathriders and The Young Bucks, which saw The Aerial Assassin have his neck targeted in the steel chair assault. Appearing live on the August 20 episode of Dynamite ahead of his match at Forbidden Door on August 24, Opsreay stated that he would be competing at the show in London despite not being cleared, as the match was unsanctioned.
Open about his injury concerns, the British wrestler does require surgery, meaning that he is set to be absent for an extended period. In an interview ahead of the show in his home country, Ospreay has further detailed his mindset going into the match, which will see him team with Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, Darby Allin and Hiroshi Tanahashi in a lights out steel cage match against The Young Bucks, The Deathriders and Gabe Kidd, which will also be Tanahashi’s final match in the UK.
Will Ospreay Set For Surgery Following Brutal Forbidden Door Match
Speaking with Screen Off Script, Ospreay stated that he has been dealing with herniated discs in his spinal cord, but added that he is not concerned about the violent match on Sunday. Ospreay also added that he intends to get surgery after the pay-per-view, but no date has been set:
“I’ve got a few herniated discs in my neck and it’s been pushing on my spinal cord, so it’s doing a number on my arm. I am fully comfortable and confident going into the ring [at Forbidden Door], so are my medics, so is my surgeon. It will be navigated and I’ll be looked after. Yeah, I will have to be going in for surgery after Forbidden Door. We haven’t got an exact date and we don’t know a time frame to come back. As nerve wrecking as it is, everybody is comfortable with me going into this match.”
