Will Ospreay has avenged his loss from Wrestle Kingdom 17.
At the Forbidden Door pay-per-view on Sunday June 25th, Ospreay defeated former champion Kenny Omega to become the new IWGP United States Champion.
Omega won the first time bout at Wrestle Kingdom 17 back in January. Ospreay has been stewing on the loss ever since, and had one goal in mind, to beat the best bout machine.
The match started out physical an kept going, with Ospreay having a point to prove from the opening bell. As is the odds were not stacked against Omega enough, Don Callis would provide interference early on, but was quickly ejected from the ringside area.
Ospreay wanted blood and he got it, busting Kenny Omega open and licking the blood afterwards, much to the disgust of the live crowd in attendance in Tortonto. Omega would get vengeance later in the match, hitting a DDT onto Ospreay onto the steps to also bust open the British wrestler.
The match would end when Callis made his way back to the ringside area, handing Ospreay a screwdriver. As Omega got Ospreay up for the One Winged Angel, Ospreay drove a screwdriver into the head of the former AEW World Champion. Despite following up with a Hidden Blade and a Storm Breaker, Omega still kicked out. A second Hidden Blade and Storm Breaker would secure the victory.
The victory ends Omega’s reign at 172 days, and begins Ospreay’s second reign with the championship.
